yeah i have no doubt that you're spot on with that one... those akai cats
just continue to disappoint...

the worst bit is there'll be further delay from when you guys can get upgrades
to when it becomes available over here....

i'm really curious to find out what the new parts will be, and what changes
they're going to make...

but yeah, let me know what he says when you get a word in his ear.

cheers

akai use the most cost effective shipping, which is by boat. so it takes several weeks between shipping, stocking, and distributing.
by the time shipments get to australia is always more of a wait, unofrtunately.

i'm not sure what VST would charge to ship parts to australia if you ordered form them, but i know it's not cheap.
but anyway, i'll find out as much as i can, including international shipping.

i'm actually more curious about when the repairers (VST in your case) will
be able to get parts. I have a parts dealer and repairer here in melbourne, but -
as you said - they are waiting on akai.

i wouldn't ship parts from VST, regardless of price. I'm expecting to have to
pay more than i ought already so... kinda resigned to the fact! i just hope
when the upgrade becomes available they will actually release all the details
about spec's etc, because as everyone's being saying, don't really wanna give
these suckers mo' money for the same faulty shyt.

yeah i'll definitely ask about when VST is expecting the parts.
from what i understand, the pads will be like the mpc500.
i explained to nick that even though the pads of the 500 are more durable, they need that extra push. so the velocity response won't be exactly up to par. but hopefully it's just a matter of the pads breaking in afer a while that they'll feel more responsive.
either way, the pads should last as long as the older mpc models, since the interlink fsr technology will be used finally as it should have from the beginning.
knowing this, i'd definitely buy the pads as opposed to the original replacements or any alternative methods that have been done already.

good news on this: in more "recent" (akai standards) 500 os's, the triggering threshold is reduced, so less pressure is required

since this is a software issue, and since we use the jj os, we can bank on getting the pads calibrated correctly from the programmer's end.

Just got a MPC 2000XL so I guess I don't need to find out about the pad replacement, but just thought I'd share this email I got from the Akai support team:

"I hear the pad upgrade kit should be arriving in the next few weeks. We recommend this to be installed by an authorized service center. The two service center that we use, besides ourselves, are TSI is Midland Park, NJ at 201-670-1767 and VST Service in Pasadena, CA at 626-794-8196. They can be contacted for more information on these."

Same shit they were saying before, but supposedly it's happening "in the next few weeks."

I'm just starting to use my 1000 that I bought in Feb 07, I just sold my mv8000. Am i trippin? . . . cause part of me wants to replace the pads before they f up. The other part of me says don't waste your money..... :?
imo, you did the right thing . i think we get pretty hyped up over this pad stuff when these topics start rolling. let's remember, the 1000 is the sh*t. a lot of people complain about the pads but at the end of the day, it's the user not the unit who makes the bangers.

that's not the issue.

the issue is that we were sold a defective product. for the same defect to show up so many times on so many mpcs is enough to tell you that - let alone a glance at the way the sensors were built.

Hey Nym, you probably posted this elsewhere but any plans to keep offering your pad set up? If i Akai dont move fast enough, am completely sol. 6 of my pads are gone.

i will if akai's price is too high. they'll force me to. however, i really don't want to, as the process takes more time than i have to spare.

I just received an email from Nick at VST. So here's the good news...

Rich,

I just got word that most of the pad kit is in stock but Akai is
waiting for the last piece which is suppose to be in next week. I'll be
adding them to our web store as soon as possible and in the meantime we'll
be taking pre-orders. Akai will be selling them for $199, we'll be selling
them for $179, and we'll install them for an extra $35.

Feel free to let the forums know that the pads will be here soon and people
can order now.

Best Regards

Sweet! One of my pads just finally started going out so this is perfect timing for me, way past time for Akai though. I'm still gonna wait til Nym tests the pad fix before I cop mine though.

I say we saddle up like cowboys in several hundred passenger vans and go sentence the wigs at akai to a hanging unless they meet our demands

1. Free pad upgrades to every serial numbered 1k

"feel free to add to the list"
