i basically want to bypass the external cd drive for the mpc cause i have a laptop with that drive.or if this one of the flaws with the 2kxl?im new so just wondering.so if not then i will have too buy a external cd drive for the mpc.or if they make a connector 2 my laptop for a external zip drive i can do that then just extrack the sounds to a zip disc then load it?.if the make a special cord to hook up to my laptop right? thanks guys .......

I am afraid that this is a nono, the mpc has no firewire connector and even if there is such a thing as a scsi 2 firewire connector then you would still need a driver to operate such a connector. Such a driver would more than likely not exist for your beloved mpc. What you could do though is get an internal SCSI zip drive in the MPC (make sure to get a SCSI and not the IDE) then you can get one of those usb 2 scsi convertors that you connect between your laptop and your mpc. Thus you will be able to drag files from you internal cdrom drive to the internal SCSI zip drive of the MPC.

USB -> SCSI work because the laptop can run a driver for it.
SCSI -> USB (Firewire) won't work coz the MPC has no driver for it.

Hope this helped.

okay cause i have a internal zip although i don't know if its scsi or ide,lol but its white and it says zip 100...so imma search on ebay for the usb adapter to scsi, also will i be able to load the sound disc thru the laptop and transfer to mpc via usb adapter?.im assuming yes but i never like to assume!
thanks man i appreciate it.-Joey...

My guess is that your internal zip drive is a IDE one, you can see that when you go to the load screen does it refer to the zip as ATAPI or as a SCSI? Most of the times it's ATAPI and those zips wil not be reachable through the usb -> SCSI adaptor

yeah your right so the best thing for me to do is buy a external zip for my lap top so i can load the cd on the zip then put in mpc or should i just get external cd drive for the mpc? or should i just get both?
-Thanks-Joey

Hey Pest

Me and you are in the same boat. I've put the same questions out there (maybe worded a little differently) but still the same. I tried using a USB to SCSI cable for my CPU....NO LUCK! I don't want to spend any more unecessary money. If I hear anything I will pass it on to you. Let me know if you find out anything.
