First think of Qlink as a build in midi controller on the 4k.

You can control up to 6 parts (aka whole programs) or all parts (every program) in real time using the qlink feature.

You can control up FX Parameters using Q-link.

You can control Control Change messages form send page using qlink that can be send to an external or internal tracks of a Midi sequencer.

You can control individual pad parameters using qlink also within a sequencers indivdual track.

Each Multi can have its own Qlink assignments. So you can change the multis within a sequence changing the qlink settings also for each region example bars 1 to 4 mulit 1, bars 5 to 8 multi 2 and etc.

When Part is selected using the Jog dial o select a parameter you can select (Amplitude, Pan, Cutoff and etc for the whole program or all programs regardless of the track you are affecting the sound or sounds of the program itself.

When the EXT 1-8 settings is selected you are affecting the modulation destinations only not the whole program which means you affect only the notes you have assign to that destination parameters in the program matrix regardless of the track you are only affecting the sound or sounds of the notes itself.

When set to control changes you are sending cc messages a whole list 1-127 ( volume, balance, and etc) to the individual tracks themselves so it is important to set the track and record the midi events in for you want to fade in and fade out the track in sequence edit or step edit with controllor as the source and selecting an destination. CC can also control a exteranl midi DAW sequencer like Pro Tools, Ableton Live and others parameter by cc changes.

You kind of get the idea on using qlink the pad control is the same usuage as stated above too. Alot of information for controlling qlink has been posted in the tricks and tips thread and newbie bible. too.

Lastly I didn`t cover everything but remember the adjust option for replace or offset meanings.

Replace means that all adjustments made by qlink control are complete, absolute, totally changing and ignoring the original settings in the program edit1, edit 2 and matrix.

For example if you set the filter to low pass with a cutoff of 50 and the filter env at 60 in matrix the replace option in qlink with ignore that and adjust from -100 to 100 according to what you have set. You could set 0>70 and control it completely or 100>50 completely turnling the knob.

Offset means that are relative (aka additions or substractions) made by qlink of the original settings in the programs edit1, edit2 and matrix the original settings are not ignored.

For example if you set the filter to low pass with a cutoff of 50 and the filter env at 60 in matrix the offset option in qlink with follow the that and substract or add to the original setting in program from -100 to 100 according to what you have set. You could set -25>25 and control it subtract or add or 10>-10 add or subtract detemining minute changes using the knob.

These are standard midi settings within full samplers using a midi controller attach to the sampler.

The more you understand sampler basics the more you can do with it.
