I keep reading on here that everyone wants the new mpc pads and not the old ones....

I had an mpc2000, then an mpc2000xl, and just recently got a used 1000

im pretty sure i dont have the new pads (maybe i do), but i don't notice any difference from my previous mpc's.

just curious really, keep reading everyone talking about the pads.

mpc 1000 w/bad pads was my first mpc..

im dealing with them ok now only because JJOS deletes double hits. . double his happen roughly 40% of the time.. they are a bit hard but im used to them..

right now i cant justify spending the 180$. . well see in the future tho

I think you're in the minority here. I never even owned any of the previous MPCs. I just occasionally borrowed the use of a couple 2kxls from friends and I noticed the difference as soon as I opened the 1000 box and laid my fingers on them -- before I even turned the thing on. Hard spot in the center with squishy edges. Not a good sign. It didn't get any better when I turned the thing on. Getting consistent velocity values was just about impossible, especially if you missed the center and hit the squishy -- then it was totally unpredictable. I managed to get enough of a feel for them to avoid the double hit problem (I don't remember ever having that prob with the 2k) but nothing else improved.

I haven't experienced the outright failure that others have, but that's probably because I mostly record external midi and don't bother with them. It doesn't surprise me that they break thou -- the design is flimsy as all hell. Nothing like the 2kXL.
