Reviews

"This is the last book you'll need on the mpc 1000 - it's insane, I love the book man! I've had my book bound today, very much appreciated man. "
Freddy Fresh, Minnesota, United States Facebook Soundcloud Twitter Home

"If you are an MPC head that uses the MPC 1000 or MPC 2500, whether you’ve thought about using JJOSXL or if you already use it, you should probably have this one in the library. Andy’s books are always well written, concise and full of useful tutorials and reference material. Do yourself a favor and check this out."
Corry Banks (BBoyTechReport.com) Facebook youtube Twitter Home

"I'm such a huge fan of the JJOS and this book has inspired me a lot and taught me things I didn't even know existed in the OS before. Awesome stuff."
Matti Koskinen, Helsinki, Finland Twitter

"Just got done working through the Sampling Bible and found it to be very helpful. This is the second one of your books I've gone through, and I appreciate how straightforward the information is and how well structured the exercises are. Great stuff. Thanks for all your contributions to the MPC universe!"
CutterJ the Absurdist, Wichita, United States Facebook youtube Soundcloud MPC-Forums.com Home

"Keep up the great work.  You have a real flare for the MPC. "
M Loch, United Kingdom

"I found the book very clearly laid out and enjoyed the upbeat tone in which it was written. Ultimately it saved me some money as the concept of trying to sort out 32 chops destroys the creative process for me."
Nicolas Hancock, Hereford, United Kingdom

"Just wanted to say thanks for all the hard work in putting out knowledge for us MPC users. Bought quite a few guides with the Ableton and JJOSXL being the latest two and I have not been disappointed at all."
xibalba1875, Chesapeake, United States MPC-Forums.com

"This book took me from having no idea what to do with my MPC and JJOS2XL to actually being able to use it"
DeadSoul MPC-Forums.com

"Great tutorials. A lot of help for a newbie like me."
Beat Freak MPC-Forums.com

"I have both MPC1000 JJOS books and for me they are a fantastic replacement for the original "Manual". "Beatmaking on the MPC 1000 covers the basics and works fine for the free JJOS variant (but also for the JJOSXL). The "JJOSXL Sampling bible" gives you a deep look especially for the sampling capabilities of the commercial variant of the JJOS. For me, both books are worth it!"

Product FAQs

What is JJOSXL?

JJOS 'XL' is an advanced third party operating system for the MPC1000 and MPC2500 created by the developer who worked on the original Akai OS for the MPC1000/2500. The OS can be purchased from the JJ web site - you'll get a code to enter in your MPC and the software becomes fully functional.

The actual name of the software differs depending on the MPC model you own. The MPC1000 version is called JJOS2XL, the MPC2500 version is called JJOS-XL. However the software is essentially identical for both MPCs and for simplicity we refer to both versions as JJOSXL.

Is this book suitable for JJOS 128/128XL (the JJOS for XLCD large screens from MPCStuff.com?)

No, this book was written for the 'standard screen' JJOSXL (i.e. JJOS2XL or JJOS-XL). You can of course run the standard JJOSXL on the XLCD large screens, however only half the screen would be used by the OS in this instance.

How do I check what OS I'm running?

Go to the OTHER screen (MODE and pad 10). In the top left of the screen your OS will be listed. It should read something like:

JJOS2XL Ver.:3.26

or

JJOS-XL Ver: 3.26

Will this book work with other versions of JJOS?

This book has been written specifically for JJOSXL 3.2x (3.26 was the current version at the time of publication) - if you run an older version of JJOSXL, there may be some features discussed in the tutorials that are not available in these older versions of OSXL. We advise you update your current install of JJOSXL with the latest version from JJ's web site.

If you run a completely different JJOS (e.g. JJOS2, JJOS1, JJOS free, or JJOS128XL), then there will be significant differences, so we cannot officially recommend this book for you, but do let us know if you would like to see a version made for your OS.

What Is An Ebook?

An ebook is an electronic book that you can read on your computer (or on a PDA, mobile phone, ebook reader, etc). Our ebooks also include folders of example files that allow you to recreate the tutorials as you read them. Our ebooks can be downloaded instantly after purchase and can be opened using any free PDF reader, such as Adobe Acrobat Reader software (most PCs already have this installed), or the built in 'Preview' PDF reader found in all Macs, iPhones and iPads.

Can I make backup copies of my ebook?

Yes, once downloaded it's just like any other computer file and can be copied to a back up disk.
