Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

working on 2k classic, when i convert the song to a sequence it doesnt play the sequence with the tracks muted they are all on. Is this normal or do I have an incorrect setting? the song consisted of four sequences and certain ones had tracks muted but when converted to seq they are all on. Do you really have to make a new seq for every change up i want in the song?

Anything you want to change in your sequence you have to sequence, if that means making a new sequence (by copying the one you already have) then what's the big deal? Why do you want your song to be one long sequence anyway?

all the change ups are seq its just like in seq 1 snare is off but when converted to song the snare is on ,just seems like if its one seq it is easier to adjust levels of the sounds if i can do it on one seq, if i have a bunch of seq for a song to adjust someting i have to go to each seq and do it, if the whole song is 1 i can do it once instead of multiple times. Im new to recording and just tryin to figure out the best way to do things. the way its worded in the manual made me think you could program everything in song mode then convert to seq for easier fine tuning.

MPC only uses trk assignments from the very FIRST seq.

Worky.
seq1 = trk1 bass, trk2 snr, trk3 kik, trk4 horn, trk5 piano, trk6 triangle etc
seq2 = trk1 bass, trk2 snr, trk3 kik, trk4 horn, trk5 piano, trk6 triangle etc
seq3 = trk1 bass, trk2 snr, trk3 kik, trk4 horn, trk5 piano, trk6 triangle etc
seq4 = trk1 bass, trk2 snr, trk3 kik, trk4 horn, trk5 piano, trk6 triangle etc

No Worky.
seq1 = trk1 snr, trk2 bass, trk3 kik, trk4 violin, trk5 piano, trk6 triangle, trk7 harp etc
seq2 = trk1 bass, trk2 snr, trk3 kik, trk4 horn, trk5 piano, trk6 triangle etc
seq3 = trk1 horn, trk2 triangle, trk3 kik, trk4 bass, trk5 tomtom, trk6 triangle etc
seq4 = trk1 bass, trk2 snr, trk3 conga, trk4 horn, trk5 hihat, trk6 triangle etc

yea i dont have different sounds on the same trk numbers in dif seq, in other words kick is on track 3 on all seq but my prob is when converted song to seq it wont rcognize that in seq 1 track 3 is on and in seq 2 track 3 is off. for ex-
seq 1-trk 1-snare trk 2-hats trk 3-kick----then in seq 2 it is the same except i have the hats muted out. song modes cool seq 1 plays all trks then swithches to seq 2 and plays all trks except hats but when converted it doesnt know to mute the hats on the second 4 bars,

Convert doesn't work like that, find another way. Record into a daw.

Shift + Song is a list of sequences in the order you want played and played the number of times you specify. Whatever your sequences sound like in main screen, that is what they will sound like in song screen. Don't bother converting to one sequence just record from Song screen to wherever the next step is (DAW).

Have you tried to delete what you were trying to mute instead? That's what I do, it's a copy so you can always get it back if you mess up. Just make sure there is one SEQ that stays whole. :idea:

thx for all the help, just gettin the machine down, so when you record to daw from song screen , if my interface has 2 inputs i go to mixer and set trk 1 and 2 to the outputs and play song all the way thru from song mode and then do it again for 3 and 4 etc until all tracks are in daw??

MPC main outs to mixer line in.
Mixer line in to audio interface/soundcard line in.
Record your song in your computer daw.
If you only have main outs on mp and separate your tracks in mpc then yes, multi recording passes in daw.

Track(s), can mean several different things so learn the terminology for alot of words and their situations.
Tracks = whole songs
Tracks = track within a sequence
Tracks can be mono or stereo depending on what your talking about and with who.
Usually tracks when referring to a sequence are MONO.
"Tracks" is also a member here.

yea i mean track like in the seq snare on track 1 etc, also i was talkin about the mixer screen in mpc to tell the mpc which track goes on which output on the 8 outs. but i do have a dj mixer also should the the mp go to the mixer first then dj mixer to interface? also just tryin to figure out what screen to record from in the mp

Assign sounds(pads) to outs in the mixer screen then go to song screen, hit record on your DAW, hit play all on the MPC. Set the DAW BPM to the same as your MPC for that song then trim off the quiet space at the start of your recorded track and nudge it back to the start of your project or a bar. With the BPM set the same your bars should line up. A more advanced way is syncing the MPC to the DAW with MIDI so you don't have to erase that small pause and move it. Another option is an interface with multiple inputs(8) to record each sound separately, but you don't have one of those so just go into a mixer, play your beat and mix it with the EQ knobs on the mixer until it sounds how you want it to then record it on 1 stereo track.

With some features there are several ways to do the same thing.

Copying sequences and bars can get the same end results but longer way around.
