Repair main out jacks in a MPC 2000XL

I tried searching in this forum without any luck so I decided to make this topic. Does anyone tried to replace the main out jacks of an MPC 2000XL?.

I've got one broken and the other is about to so i decided to repair them myself. I opened the MPC to find that the jacks are soldered to the PCB so im a little afraid. Can I replace them with any TRS jack? (suggestions about ones that fits?) Is a risky operation? (i dont have much experience desoldering in a PCB so...).

make sure to get a desoldering braid or a desoldering pump and have a good tip on your gun,as the solder spots are very small,,
i use the braid,and i frey it at the tip and it works wonders..

as for the trs jack,id rather not reply on that as i am not sure,,but really its not that difficult as long as you have a little experience in soldering..

I recommend to get some old broken electronic yunk (just to get some pcb) and get used to soldering and desoldering before you try to repair your MPC. Get that pump and / or braid and learn how to use it. There are some youtube videos that show you how it works.

For your MPC Outs you need the correct jack. The jack inside your MPC maybe show a company name or numer. If not you can ask your local electronic part dealer. Here in germany there is conrad, reichelt and some others that maybe have the jacks.

Hehe thanks for the advices and the quick response!

I already have a pump and practice with old PBCs (not that much, ill keep training) but i'm still not sure if i can break the MPC PBC if i put to much hot on it. I don't care if i break the jacks because they are already broken .

I'll reopen the MPC again so i can see if there's any clue about the jacks, but i think they didn't have any text on them...so i hope anyone can drop some knowdeledge

Well i opened the MPC and the jacks have some kind of symbol and a number in them.

The number is a 7 in all them except for the headphones out wich have a 5 on it.

The symbol is... well... like a circle made of arcs (hard to explain ). I take a picture of them with my camera phone, but the quality is bad, here you go:

I'd say, the bigger problem than getting the exact same brand of jack is to know if it is actually the jack that is broken, and not something else on the board. I would take a bet that after you replaced them, they would still not function.

Nah, thats not the case. The photo is not for the broken jacks, they are phisically broken and if you can make contact they sound.
