If your still sloppy after a year then your not dedicated to your craft man. Also to though I'd like to add that alot of the younger cats that use computer based software to make beats can't really follow a metronome. I know that sounds crazy but I have watched more than a few people come by my house and try, but these same dudes can program the hell outta fruity loops.
I aint knockin FL but my thing is I can really play the Mpc any model and other musical instruments, so I feel like if all u can do is program some software than this is prolly not the machine for u. I like people like 9th wonder for 2 reasons for one, he makes real hip hop beats like premo. Not all that simpleton stuff, and 2 because what ever he do on FL he can do on an mp.
My point is dont take sloppy for an excuse force that mp to submit to your cleverness. And use that cleverness to figure out your own style, way, swing, and sound or what ever u want to call it, but dont blame the machine. The Mpc is industry standard thus the word pro. U messin wit professional equipment. But if u can mess wit FL and only manipulate it to make nice beats than beat production is'nt really in u because at some point u gotta be able to play the hell outta a drum machine. The beat aint in u if u cant. To me software takes from creativity because it do everything for u. U aint gotta follow the metro really. Watch soulja boy lame a-- on u tube he platinum but cant beat.
