Xl on cover new Q-tip album

yo he used the 2kxl, 3k and a sp1200. awhile back he did an interview in the REMIX mag and spoke on it. he said the drums where played live then sampled back in and chopped. if u can read the article cuz its going over the in home layout of his studio and the recording process undertaken by him and two other cats that played keys/bass.

Wow, and that MPC is USED too! I like the fact the he ripped that **** out his own studio instead of posing with a brand new one! Those pads are worn! Gotta check this joint out!

QTip fan here for sure. To me what stood out on 1st 3 LPs were the samples he chose and the drums he used. Took that sample James Brown formula to a different set of dusty crates. RESPECT

Yeah I was up in my record store the other day and saw that on the shelves. I wanted to pick it up but I had other plans for the money.

Gonna go back though.

This was my album of the year for 08. shit goes hard.

it's a good album. in fact, i'm listening to it right now. i saw the post and was like, $hi1 i ought to get back on that, i forgot how dope it is. tip has his stuff together, it's an interesting mix of live instrumentation and produced sounds, which, of course, is the sound he's help make popular. i read the REMIX article when it came out and i remember him saying that he did a lot of recording, with him playing if i'm not mistaken and then loaded the joints into his mpc or whatever his sampler of choice was and reworked everything and pieced the songs together again.
