Normal Zip Operation

So a little while ago I moved from a 1000 to a 2000 classic w/ a zip100 external drive. Sometimes when the drive is idling, or being used to load it will click once, the orange light will flash and it will continue loading. Is this the start of the click of death, or just a normal part of operation?

when i first got my mpc and hooked it up with a scsi zip. the drive would click quite a few times before it read the disk. i actually thought this was normal. i used it like that for close to a year. never ruined my disks but eventually it did.
