Sampling troubles

hey i just got my mpc like a week ago so i hooked up everthing and i went to record off my turntables into the mpc and im having problems with the volume being low even when i turn the record knob all the way up and if i mess with the mixer knobs the sounds get messed up with pops and click i think its digital distortion and when i go to trim i cant really edit cause the wave is so small i cant tell where there are any peaks or anything can anyone help me out?

if you are going through a turntable then you have ground it. turntables have a different frequency than a CD player etc... search around this site for threads with this similar problem. im pretty sure this has been answered before with more input.

i had the same problem.


im using a dj mixer pioneer djm500 and it has its own recording boost knob on it.

so what i have to do to get the distortion away and keep the volumes high was 2 things.

1) i set my mixer boost knob to half way and did the same on my MPC.

2) when recording into the MPC make sure that only the record is being out put. in others words make sure your crossfader is not sat in the middle or on the mpc channel.


if that make sense then you'll be aite.

what i have is a Numark TT1625 turn table some other numark mixer dm950 i grounded it to the mixer and i have the fader all the way to what ever side the turntable and i run a cable plugged into the the mixer output with two rca plugs with two stereo male 1/4 adapters into the record left right in the mpc

You did the soldering of those cables by yourself?? I never saw a cable like that in stores. Maybe its because its useless to solder a stereo 1/4 jack to a rca.

I guess the soldering is wrong. The signal cable has to be soldered to the Tip of the 1/4 jack. and the ground has to be soldered to the ground of the 1/4 only. The ring pin on the 1/4 jack need to be without any wire.

You can also use mono 1/4 jacks

no i did not solder anything i got a rca cable like this http://www.electronicsnmore.com/images/RCA2.gif and the i put rca to stereo adapters like this http://images.guitarcenter.com/products ... 586jpg.jpg but the one i have is stereo this one is mono cause there is only on black ring around it

Are you running your turntable through a preamp?

Ok, this is the problem:

The MPCs inputs are 2 x symetric 1/4 (1x left channel, 1x right channel). The symetric 1/4 are the same design as stereo 1/4 but it dont work like a stereo 1/4. You can read about symetric connection at wiki or search google.

What happen (in case you use the dapter above) is that your input signals of left and right are erasing all the signals that are placed in the middle (just like some karaoke machines). You need to connect it in a different way. I recommend 2x 1/4 mono! to RCA
Your problem should be solved with this.

1. The back of that mixer has an attenuation switch on the back. Make sure it is set to 0db.
