hello all
longtime fan -first time poster...
today i just spent $700 on the akai mpc 2000xl the blue one.....
i plugged it up and then spent the next 3 hours trying to get it to play something(anything!!)
i tried to record to the mpc from my technics turntable and play it back- nothing

i guess im looking for any tips on where to start trying to learn the 2000xl???just a gentle shove in any direction i guess..i have downloaded the manual and will prolly order that beat making tutorial off this site as well.

also if anybody wants to sell me some samples on those cf cards....lemme know something...

if somebody could give a begining beginner a few tips because i ain't gonna lie it seems a bit overwhelming..

well yea, everything IS IN there....its not hiding any info from you.

Go to the sample screen

Choose either mono or stereo

Length

Sample

Save or re record

Got to the Trim Screen to edit and listen to what you recorded

then assign to a program or pad

All that is IN the manual

Welcome!!!

The 2KXL manual,
this forum (along with this http://www.mpc-forums.com/search.php),
searching on YouTube for 2KXL videos
and for a limited time only, the MPC2KXL ebook (plus samples) is for purchase here: http://www.mpc-samples.com/product.php/48/beat-making-on-the-mpc2000xl/ can help you out extremely.

I'm just saving you from a barrage of RTFM responses. Good Luck... you purchased a great MPC now learn to use it.

You should have gotten into the manual from the get go.

As you read along, have your mpc powered up and actually DO what you read about and it all becomes clear
after a little while. Just don't get anxious and quit the book but still keep going with the mpc, you'll run into problems
if you do that. You will solve ALOT of potential future problems just by DOING what you read about and going through it
that way.

So yes, the tip is to read the manual  .

I usualy make a habbit of reading the manual before I get the piece of gear i.e. reading the PDF file, that way I know if the unit is right or not for me and when I/if I get it I can get down on it quick and not be lost.

yea im getting into that manual like toliet paper...i just bought the 2000xl out of impulse really...i just woke up and decided to use all my musical talents..i play piano, guitar, drums, trumpet, trombone, tuba, turntables, sing, harmonize, freestyle, write poetry....all i really do is smoke weed and work a dead end job and just freestyle at work and shit so i decided that i had enough of the 9-5 bs.. and went and bought a mpc to start writing my own music....
plus, i always complain to my friends that rap music is garbage these days...i complain about all the dance-rap songs, and how there is no substance to rap AT ALL and people like soldier boy are killing the hip hop i grew up loving....how most of the rappers that rap don't even ryhme (spelling?? sorry im high) in their lyrics most of the time...no kinda social commentary in these records and how everybody that raps is some kinda big time dope pusher/pimp/ gangsta/ shot 32 times....so my friends told me if i don't like rap how it is, then do something about it....so here i am.

anybody ever notice how the game claims he got shot by a .45 caliber in the heart...but when he has his shirt off- there is no kinda bullet scars????
