If your talking about saving sounds you have made/sampled, the best way to save them on a floppy is as a .SND file, but you shouldconvert the sound to mono and see if it still sounds good (check both the L and R sounds, as they'll sound diff't), cuz mono takes up less (half as much) memory as stereo.
If you just want to save the sounds associated with your song from the CDROM, so you don't have to look for them later, just make sure you don't save any sounds with your program that aren't used in you song, as again, this will eat up storage.
I've found that if I only have about 10-15 seconds of samples, you can save all the drums in the song as well. Do this by unassigning all the sounds you don't use (in the PROGRAM screen) then PURGE unused sounds. Then "Save all Programs and Sounds" It may fill up a whole floppy, if so, don't panic, you can't just switch disks at the prompt it gives you and continue on a new disk.
BTW, if you boot up your MPC with a floppy the has an .ALL file or .APS file or both, it will load them automatically. So if you save your song as "All sequences and songs" and your programs as "All programs and sounds" all on one disc, then all you have to do is put the disc in, turn on the MPC, wait for it to load and then play your song (to the delight and entertainment of all involved).
