MPC 2000 cut samples

As you all know the mpc 2k has no funktion to cut a sample into 16 pieces so is there any pogramm to do that (fast) like sample 1 click cut in 16 pieces.

buy a newer mpc with autochop i guess.

that or upgrade to an xl


although there is that neat trick you do with the pad on mono. I forget the two things you change in params (you switch the values of the 2 on the bottom left on the params screen) and ten use 16 levels velocity. what it does is it changes the start time of the sample depending on the velocity (but with 16 levels you can do the same thing twice no problem)

the wave editor "wavelab 5" got a auto split function u can use that to cut your samples in pieces

Ive got the XL...and I hardly ever use the zone feature. I still prefer cutting everything up manually

This "trick" is a nice idea but it doesn't work good enough. I experiment with that a time ago and none of the samples was "chopped" tight enough. No wonder, to use all the 128 steps (Value 0-127) you're sample has to be exactly 5 seconds if I remember correctly. If it is longer you wont be able to trigger the last part (8th or 4th) of the sample.
A shorter sample will not result in a higher "trigger resolution". Instead of that the samplestart will be played at lower values. So if 127 will play the samplestart at a 5 second sample the samplestart at a 4 Second sample will be represeted by the value 80 or so.
Result = No greater resolution
It would be cool if a shorter sampletime would be spread to all the values 0-127. This would result in a higher resolution and the sample could be triggered much tighter. (another point to the one who maybe program a custom OS for the 2000 one day )

Oh I chop with the zones. I enlage the zone to a bit more than a 8th note, set the length to FIX, set the startpoint of the zone, copy to new, set the next startpoint, copy to new etc. Then I go thru the samples and set the correct end point.

^^ You mean adjusting the velocity at ste edit and also adjusting the value of the "velocity to startpoint" parameter.
Yes its true but it isnt still tight enough. Maybe with a half measure sample ok but not with a bar of 4/4 at ....say 95 Bpm.
It doesn work linear so if the sampletime is spread over the 128 values it doesnt mean that the value 64 represent the half of the sampletime.
We could discuss this more and more. If it work for you then work with it but I find this function useless in most cases. Not just because the points I told before. The Pads doesnt represent the 16th nor the 8th (when in 16level mode) and you have to fine adjust the values in step edit mode. Thats much more work (IMO) then cutting the 8ths out of the loop and place them in a program.
The only benefit of this method is that the "chops" stop each other.
