the valixi os is stored on an eprom chip. pull the chip and hook it up to a reader and walla... a starting point is born. on those machines (60\3000) you couldnt just put a disk in and upgrade the os. hence security on that software was probably a little more laxed. akai never imagined somebody ripping the eprom out of their mpc. the newer units are different. os is stored on a flash chip and can be upgraded easily. so they encrypted the code so you cant read it. if you cant read it you cant rewrite it. i wont go into jj aquiring the source for the 1k\2500 cause im tired of fighting with nym about it. but because he has the unencrypted source code he can rewrite the parts that make your mpc better. no source for the 2k series means no upgrade. period. and akai\numark will never realese the source code to any of their products.
