do I need a patchbay

I been using tha 2k classic solo wit records and a jv2080 for bout 5 yrs. I also midid it wit a extreme a couple years back a lil while ago. My partner got a fantom x 6 and he is convinced we need a patchbay in order for them to work together properly. We want to use the mp to control the tempo of the synth lines from the fantom. How do I need it set up.

We got midi out fantom to midi in mp2k. Do I need a patchbay to pull this off?

That's backwards. MPC midi out (master tempo) to synth midi in (slave to mpc tempo).
