MPC2KXL Newbie needs advice

Hi people,

I've got some question about getting a MPC2000 XL and any advice you could give me would be very helpful.

Bout me: I make hip-hop, uk garage, reggae, and DnB beats using chopped-up breaks only. I currently use an Emu sampler controlled through VST. This way of working is fine for me but I want to use a sampler dedicated to percussion to free up my Emu for other sounds.

My Q's:

Not having used a hardware sequencer before, how do I integrate the MPC into my setup? ie, do I write the beats on the MPC and just trigger loops from Cubase?

I've heard of people sync-ing Cubase to the MPC, can anyone explain this to me and whether it's necessary?

Any advice on the pros and cons of buying second hand would be good also.

Thanks for the time folks. I really appreciate any replies especially those from people who use both hardware and software sequencers together.

If you're still interested...

The MPC is a complete "midi production center". As such, Cubase and computer are redundant. If you aquire a "fully blown" MPC (32megs memory, eight outs and fx board) you will have everything you need to produce tracks.

If you can get a great price, i'd go for a new fully expanded MPC. Otherwise, they turn up from time to time on ebay for good prices. I'd take along someone who is well familiar with MPCs to look the prospective machine over before parting with any money.

Check out the 2000xl studio. I think its under $2,000. Expand the memory and roll.

I also Make hip-hop, reggae, and DnB style beats ... I also have Computer ..... Cubase etc But I prefer MPC 2000Xl for all Sequencing. I have Korg Triton and several modules, all linked to The MPC. You could also link The EMU to The MPC. Make sure you get the Breaks and Beats collection from MPC-Tudor. a great starting place for your new MPC .

Get New if you can, around $1199 USD for just the MPC 2k , I think you can find The 2K XL studio for around $1599 USD.

i connect my mpc output directly into a soundcard and record audio straight from the mpc into cubase and it works fine.

so you can record audio 1 then 2 then 3 e.t.c

its a lil easire for me than using midi.
