Sooner or later I'm probably going to want to track stuff out to the computer, at least until I ahve the money to get an 8 out card. I know that even a painstakingly optimized computer is going to have pretty shaky MIDI sync compared to dedicated hardware, so I'm thinking about using it as a SMPTE master and slaving the MPC to that. Not with the SMPE generator in my interface, but just by generating timecode as a WAV file, putting it on a track, and sending the monitor out for that track to the SMPTE in on my MPC. That way I'd never have to involve MIDI at all, I'd just be doing everything via the ASIO drivers, which shouldn't have anywhere near the timing trouble of PC MIDI
Anyone tried this? Worth the effort? Tips?
