Out of nowhere floppyproblem

hey guys, was making a beat yesterday and everything was good, using a floppy drive
like ive been doing for a year but suddently today when i turned it on when it reads a floppy it tells me the .wav names are like IhS6ghS&9&.wav and the file sized are 92037509 KB
just out of nowhere, it hasnt been touched since yesterday.

I would seriously consider upgrading to a CF drive if you can. I know that doesn't solve the immediate problem, but it'll save you the hassle of floppies.

But he would need a floppy drive to update the OS first....something I didn't know wasn't possible until I tried via the installed zip drive I had.

i live in iceland and zip drives are completely dead here and i cant find a CF drive either, but yeah, no one run it to this problem? i tried reinstalling OS but it couldnt find anything on the floppy

i dont have an extra one, i did unplug it and replug it though, no success

What os are you using? If I remember right you can use a cf drive with 1.14, and to be blunt, living in Iceland is no excuse to not get new parts imported. If I still had my floppy drive I would happily just give it you, but I sold it along with my xl. Little consolation I know...

if only you knew how our economy is doing... you would stop complaining about gas prices, we pay 7x more for gas than in the US , so 1 compact flashcard originally for 30dollars + shipping + taxes + VAT = 196 dollars, im not even gonna calculate how much the whole CF drive kit is. anyway, someone must have had this problem in the 900 years the mpc has been out???

You can open up the drive and try to clean it. Maybe it's just a problem with some dirt inside. But be very careful!!! there are some screws you shouldn't take out cause the drive will be ruined (if the drive is the Teac FD235). In most cases the top of the drive can be open without any screws.
Take a q-tip and a drip of isoprypol alcohol and very gently clean the read/write head of the drive. I SAID VERY GENTLY !
Touch the head just one or two times with the q-tip (wet alcohol side). Then touch it with the dry side of the q-tip once.

Wait 5-10 minutes and try to load with the drive. If it still dont work, you will need a new drive. There are just a few drives that work with the 2000. The model that is build in by Akai was the Teac FD 235HF-8549 . The number behind the HF is very important cause there are many FD235HF out there but just a few work with the 2000. You need one with jupers in the back. As far as I know the drive need a juper for DS0/DS1 and RY/DS settings.

i finally got a hold of a new floppy drive and it works perfectly, i'll try and clean the old one though so i can have a spare, thanks
