Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

ummmmm, I didn't start this post to b!tch about the limitations of the MPC, I was just wondering if anyone knew if there was a way to do what I want. I think you are oversimplifying my situation. I fully understand the tuning option of my sample, which is waht led me to the question of settin the tuning to 0 but still keepin the same sound. I have used that very same option to make my sample sound like 2 diff't loops (which is part of my ?). I also understand the 16 zone/slice into new sounds and then increase the velocity gradually. But I also understand that I can get the EXACT result I wan with one loop, but can't get the EXACT results I want when I try to make the fade come in on the 2 together. I know the MPC has ways to do what I want (actually, I solved this problen about a week ago, but I wanted to know about alternative cuz my solution only works when the sample is the at the beginning of the song).

My point is this. You don't know me, anything about me, or what "stage with the MPC" I'm at. I came here askin for advice, not to be lectured and disrespected because I wasn't makin beats back when all you had was vinyl and a sampler. I doubt you've been producing since then either. My very point of coming here was that I thought I had a simple problem and was missing some sort of obvious way to use the ATTACK effect on a whole track instead of only a single sample. And I can't, no big deal. It surprised me, cuz I figured that the MPC would have something like that, but I'm not b!tching about it. I love my MPC. And I'm sorry to give the impression that I don't. No disrespect to the Treacherous Three or Grandwizard Theodore was EVER intended.

BTW I know what normalise means, as well as every other word or phrase I use. If I was just trying to sound smart I wouldn't be using words that sound made up (ie normalise). Sorry again for not having the money for an effects board, maybe if I was rich, I wouldn't be in the creative bind I am right now...

And I know what I need. AND it's very simple, but if the MPC can't do it, it's all good.

I need to make my 2 samples one loop, but can't since they are both the same sasmple just TUNED diff't then TIMESTRETCHED to be the same tempo, when I merge them its the same sound looped twice. If I could just make them sound like they've been tuned and stretched, but let the MPC think they haven't (AKA set to 0/normalize voulume) then I could merge them into one sound and my prob would bw e solved.

Thats what I need to do, and sorry, but it (appearently) CANNOT be done on an MPC alone, and I'm sorry this upset you. If anyone can do it, cool, let me know what the deal is. Other than that, I don't need any advice on how creative I am.

PEACE

Please forgive me for stepping on your toes. I want you to understand that i'm sometimes just a hard assed old man. Perhaps it comes from starting out so long ago when things were a lot tougher than today. (By the way, i was producing tracks back "in the day". Longer in fact and still very busy). Anyway, i'm very sorry i offended you.

Reading your post i wonder if i really understood what you were trying to do. If my original suggestion didn't deliver...hmm Yeah, i'm not sure i understand exactly. From what you've written, it appears that you want to fade in two samples. You say you solved the problem but "...my solution only works when the sample is the at the beginning of the song." this confuses me. Why would something work in the beginning of a song and not somewhere else in a song? What was your solution? Are you trying to fade in a sample and then have it loop without repeating the fade? Stupid question i know but i really don't get what you're trying to do. Sorry.

Aight, one more time.

I got a loop (4 guitar notes with 3 violin behind it, pretty dope, chopped up from Louis Armstrong's Moon River)

Then for variety I tuned one at -30 and one at -10, then timestretched the -10 to be the same BPM/length of the -30 one.

The basic steps for the loop in the first 2 sequences is -30,-10,-30,-10 with each one at the beginning of each bar and exactly a bar long so it sounds like one loop with the pitch switching up.

In the first sequence i want to fade the track in, so I put a 100 attack on the first step (-30) and it fades in smooth as butter, but it's a bit abrupt, only takes about 2 sec for the fade to complete. I noticed that if I make that loop longer in the STEP menu (2bars) and delete the next step, the fade lasts about as long as I would like, but it doesn't have the pitch change that should come about halfway through the fade-in. So I figured I'd just put the 2 loops together as a new sound (which would be 2 bars long), then set the attack and I'd be straight, right? Wrong. The samples are the same so when I insert one before the other, the tuning goes back to 0 for each, so in effect, I have the same loop twice (+ or - the diffrence from timestretching one of them). So I figured if I could normalise the tuning on each, so I keep the same pitch, but set the tuning to 0, then when I put them together the pitch change would be there. Or, I was hoping (but not expecting) some way to set the attack to the entire track, not just steps within.

My solution, since you asked, is quite elementary, and was suggested by someone earlier in this thread, but at the time, it wouldn't work because I had Hi hats over the loop when it started. Since then, I decided I like the loop solo for 2 bars and therefor just play the loop at normal attack and manually fade in the entire MPC volume on my mixer. So it works a the beginning of the song but wouldn't work otherwise.
