Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

£300 will buy me a basic 1000...but by all accounts the pads are crappy and the nukai build quality is lacking. There's an XL on eBay uk curretly at £300 with 8 outs, zip drive, max memory and fx upgrade...chances of it going for that price may be slim though...

So, found an XL on gumtree/soundonsound in london yesterday, and as it happens one of my boyz is down there with his girlfriend at the moment. my dude has just gone down to see it, and the guy has demonstrated it sampling, all outputs playing correctly etc. i haven't seen it but the condition is pretty good overall apparently - and the screen works perfectly. Here's what I got:

MPC 2000XL
32mb RAM upgrade
8 output module
Floppy drive

£330 with the most important upgrade...now I need to get a cheap CF card reader & jack the EB16 off an S2000 and I'll be FULLY LOADED!

The price is fairly nice...if I'd been there in person I would have maybe tried to haggle the dude a little but it's pretty hard doing it via a middle man. No delivery costs either as it will be travelling back up to Aberdeen on a bus!

I've done some searching and will continue to do so, but has anyone been able to find a reliable supplier of CF readers in the UK recently?

Of course the ones that are marketed as MPC compatable cost a f*cking bomb.

@ Main Issue:

I live in Glasgow and have a MPC200XL that I'm thinkg about selling.

I brought about 6 months ago with dead pads and tempremental data encoder for £200 (I knew the pads were dead when I got). I have maxed the RAM added the 8 out and a DIY CF drive. I have relised that I'm not going to get around to fixing it for a while so I might as well sell it. To get the pads fixed will cost about £70 in parts and postage from VST in the states (I have emailed them back and forth several times)

I'm after what I paid for it, £200.

Interested? PM me.

Cheers, Nine

Hi nine sorry I should have been more clear, I've paid for the xl I mentioned above. Personaly I reckon you'd make more back selling on the upgrades again and fitting a zip, I'd take the cd reader off your hands for starters

No problem. I really need to get round to fixing the pads anyway.........

As for the card reader, if you are comforable with a bit of DIY check this thread

viewtopic.php?f=1&t=109501

I still have a few of the card readers still that I used for the upgrade (I also fitted the card reader in the Blue MPC2000XL you mentioned in the thread you started about 8 out boards, the guy that sold that mpc on ebay is a mate of mine)

Cheers, Nine

I just scored my 2000xl with 8 outs for $175 US dollars because it's got rust on the bottom. Now I can't even sell my 2500 for $700! crazy I tell you,

good thing I like the 2000xl soooo much more

is that why it didn't have a face plate? I don't have a prob mounting the bits in a 3.5 inch case, I work in IT too so can easily get a hold of them

Ok, despite the fact that I won't see my XL until sat, I thought I'd get working on a drive bay.

I have vandalised an old floppy drive with a nice creamy front plate:

Here's a view from the front with the opening for the drive lifted up

I don't really know how big the CF reader component is, but that raised circular part could just well be exactly what i need to mount it on. I've wedged a couple of tiny screws in the bit where it contacts the housing and superglued the whole bit together. I'll leave it overnight and possibly tape it down with a bit of duck tape to make sure it aint going nowhere!

If i can't find a place that sells CF reader face plates, the floppy plate will at least look neater than a gaping hole and will help to keep dust etc out as well.

I purchest my 2kxl from a private board, i was lucky to find it so easily i guess, there were no reply's on the thread for about 3 months but i posted with my interest anyway, turns out the dude still had it so i managed to get it for 350 pound with 16mb ram and two external zip drives, its very clean with a aged look so it was quite a sweet find.

i would honestly go with other members advice and wait till u find one the right price, just keep bidding on ones until ur budget is up u may find a bargain.

As for the CF card board its very small no more than about 10cm in length which is pretty nifty, i picked one up of flea-bay for around a pound, but i eventually found a 3.5 inch CF reader which fitted perfectly with the mpc for around 40 pounds.

Yup, I've got one dude, see post a few replies up ^^

2000XL, 32mb ram & 8 outs for £330

Just needs the FX board & CF reader to be maxed out...so the whole thing should be doable at well under £400. I'm trying out the '$5 CF reader' mod which all in should cost £5-£10, then I hope to keep my eyes peeled for S2000s to jack the EB16 from.

during my journey from desire > purchase, they seemed to fluctuate upwards
