MIDI stuff

Hello all, I have read many articles on MIDI and how it works etc. It is taking me a long time to fully understand it. I thought I would just ask this mainly for confirmation. Sorry if its hard to understand, i'm kinda struggling to explain what i'm trying to get at.
I understand that MIDI data does not send audio or sound so i think what i want isn't possible but here goes. At the moment I am recording from my MPC to Logic as audio. So when I record drums it is a pain to edit them, quantise them etc. as all the sound has appeared as audio waves. Is there any way to get sounds that are on my MPC to record so I can edit them the same way I could if recorded a software instrument like a MIDI Keyboard with a logic bass sound?

I think its impossible because the drum sounds have to originate from the computer right? There's no way to send MPC sounds to the computer this way because MIDI does not contain any sound data. but I really need so confirmation cos i'm runnin rings in my head tryin to work out if its possible.

Alternatively, is it possible for me to record different pads on the MPC onto different tracks in logic? If i could do that it would definitely solve my problem.

thats excatly what you need to do , if you have 8 outs it make a little better cause you then record 4 or 8 inputs at once.

best thing is to do everything on you mpc till you can do no more then drop it in to the logic .that what i do with cool edit then i can normalize to teh db i want an maybe add some effects if needed. it all depends on what your putting in theomputer that makes the difference inmy honest opinion.

Ok cool thanks man, so the MIDI thing aint possible then? How do I record using the 8 outs?

Ahh scrap that, just looking thorugh the manual, I dont have the 8 output board installed on my MPC .

Anyone know any other way of helping me with the MIDI thing?

So are you wanting to record the audio or are you trying to record midi instruments into Logic?

If it's audio and you don't have the eight outs........then sorry bruh......it's one or two tracks at a time(depending on your set-up)If you want to control a VST(VSTI)you have to load that(instrument) into Logic and you can use the MPC as the controller.You'll just have to record it there and make the computer the slave.

What you can do to record separate sounds (tracks) to your DAW is finish all your patterns, go into song mode, sequence your patterns and after youre happy with the song sequence hit "convert" now the song will be a pattern.

Now go to the pattern section and you can solo and record each part (ex. drums, bassline) using that pattern made from the song mode. But just remember before you start making those patterns keep each part in it's own track so you can solo them.

I usually only have a drum track, bassline track, loop track and that it, so I only have to record to my DAW three times.
That's how I do it since I don't want to spend $300 on the 8 output deal.

you can't single out tracks on a coverted squence to song?! it coverts everything to one track ,if you mute it will mute the hole song.
just do the song in song mode and then run it thru that way while you mute each track individually, maybe i'm doing something different but i havent been able to mute single tracks in a song converted sequence. maybe cause i merg everything to one track.

that 8 outs make a world of difference,i sugguest you save and install it .i dont remember what it felt like to not have it in,i love that it makes it so easy.

yes you can, I have, but like I said you have to make sure each part (ex drums) is on a different track so you can mute and solo.

ok gotcha yes you can do that way too, i was just doing it different cause i merg mdi tracks and it only converts to one track and you can't shut off on tracks that way.
