bpm read out

can anyone tell me how they get the tempo for a sample, i know you have to loop it but it always gives me a read out that i know doesnt match, i could sample something i know is above 90bmps and when i check it to make sure it might tell me something like 26bmp, am i doing something wrong??

in your example you could guess that its tempo is really 104 (26 x 4)
if the tempo it gives doesnt make sense try mulitplying it by 2 or 4 (or dividing it if it seems real fast, 186 = 93).
