Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000
By The Fluxx Sat Aug 21, 2004 4:45 am
Is there anyone who owns a MPC 2000 (not XL or 4000) who uses sys ex from keyboards to mpc 2000? I can't seem to save the work I done to disk. A friend of mine owns a 2000xl and he showed me his way by pressing play & record then start the sys ex from the keyboard. And from there the mpc records the sys ex, He saves to track 99.Reloads it and everything is fine.

I tryed this and I came up with nothing  . Can somebody help me out. I'm I missing a step here? Could someone tell me in detail? step by step so I can get this thing going.because I was just going to upgrade to a XL(Where I know it works) or 4000 so I can start creating magic again.[/i][/b]

On my 2000 I record sys ex or midi controller data with no problems, but this is normally just things like a filter sweep on a synth. How much sys ex data are you wanting to record & save?

I have a Roland xp 30 & a korg ms 2000 that I'm using. I am not to midi savvy (to say the least) But I don't know the amount of sys ex data that I am trying to record or save? or what a Filter sweep is? How can I fix this? Could you give me these tips, And explain how you go about saving on your mpc 2k :?

Ok, well if you might need to switch something on your synths so they are transmitting sys ex data.

Move a fader on the Korg MS2000 with a track on the MPC set to step edit...( press F1 when on MAIN SCREEN.)
Can you see any numbers appearing on the MPC screen because those should be either sys ex or midi controller data from that particular fader on the Korg? You should be able to save this the same way you save any other sequence data.

Can you get the friend who showed you how he did it on his machine round to check your set-up?

Filter sweep. Play a sound on the Korg & move the group of faders that are labelled VCF (Voltage Controlled Filter), especially Resonance & Cut Off. That is filter sweeping.

Extra point... See if you can go into "Edit" on the start of this forum thread & change your Subject to something like "Sys Ex Recording problems." I find you get more responses if you thread title is exactly on topic.

connect it to a computer and run an app called MIDI OX it will analise the incoming signal and give you a visual representation of the controlers numberr that the synth is spitting out. i sure korg use nrpn's but i cant work that shit out, its fukn annoying.

sysex is easy enough, but will clog the midi stream something cronik. try to keep it to a minimum, or the mpc might crash.
