SCSI data transfer

From what i have read the MPC2000XL does not transfer data to a computer via SCSI, so the only way transfer sounds (saved as WAVS ) from the MPC to a computer would be to save the sounds onto a floppy/zip/CF card and load the WAVS on the computer.

I have an internal floppy and an external zip drive from my 2000XL and a usb on my macbook pro. I want to chop samples i have from my mpc on recycle on the mac.

Would a usb floppy or zip drive for the mac transfer the mpc WAV file on to the mac for chopping on recycle?

-Even though they are MPC formatted disks, the mac will still recognise them?

I have searched and from that i established that the 2000XL is NOT capable of sending data to a mac or PC directly via SCSI.

The MPC will recognise FAT formatted zip disks. Your computer will not recognise MPC formatted disks, so it's better to format on your computer first.

I use floppy disks straight from the packet and work fine in my PC and MPC without the need of any formatting on my PC

i just bought an mpc2000XL, and my fathers old ('97?) powermac 7500 has a scsi port... can i use that as a hard disk for the mpc?.. id guess not.. but its worth asking, no? it would be cool to be able to do that, it also has a fairly decent audio card (on the motherboard) AND we have an iomega 100 zip drive lying around somewhere

I am not sure if it is going to work. MPC2000 formats SCSI devices to FAT16. You would be using an old Mac, probably MAC OS 9 is running on your old mac. I don't remember whether FAT16 volume would mount on old MAC...

Well, I researched, and, yes, Mac OS 9 can read and write to FAT16 volume.

It is worth trying, but you would end up cheaper to just get a CF reader, CF cards, and install it on 2000XL. Even though MPC2000 is a bit picky on Compact Flash cards (it has to be 1GB or less, and many cheap CF cards probably won't work.), and it is not hot-swappable, I think it is better than ZIP storage option.

Remember, Zip disks are very fragile and has high risk of losing data! And data transfer with CF card is much, much, easier!

JVC, you are only limited to 1GB CF cards if you buy an IDE card reader and use os 1.2. Our SCSI CF-CARD drives allow you to use up to a 16GB CF card and they use os 1.14.

Oh, so I must be dreaming.. Because I could have sworn I was rocking a 4GB card partioned into four 1GB partitions in my XL using my IDE drive and the 1.2 OS.

Ofcourse you cannot partition the cards using the 1.2 OS itself, but why should not one be able to use cards with partitions on them?

1.2 will only see the first partition on any SCSI media. Your 4GB CF card may have 4 partitions on it but under 1.2, you'll only be able to access the first one.

I have a g4 mac that has internal zip drive and reads fine.

Please read it again. I'm accessing all the four partitions just fine using the IDE card reader.
