Internal Zip on a 2000??

I recently went to have my mpc fixed and asked if i would be able to install an internal Zip on my 2000, he said yes but it would cost $300 to install.Thats just for the F*ckin labor! has anyone done this before?

or would i be able to install an internal hard drive?

From what I know, unless you know what you're doing (and even then it might not be the best idea), you shouldn't really try. You could always go with an external.

I'm sure someone else will be able to go into more detail, though.

Off the back it is crazy......I went thru trial and error like four times and Akai is really no help. They want us to buy thier sh!tty zip drives and the connection cables. I tried to install this ATAPI internal ide zip drive and just couldn't do it. I called Akai, and they tried to sell me some kits. They sent me instructions on how to do it. To make a short story even shorter, I cop'd an Internal Scsi Zip drive and did it like that. The Scsi way only involves one splice to the existing wire that now connects your floppy device. Add in the extension and cop a Scsi 50 pin ribbon cable and your good to go. It took me so many times because I was trying to do the Atapi zip which requires splicage and additional wire to the power port.

its be expressed to me that the motherboard on the 2000 cant handle the scripting for an internal zip. But to my surprise the rogue music claims thet can do it, and they only charge $109. you might have to ship it to nyc ( rogue does not mess around ) check

If he buys it his self he will also save like $90.00 bucks Us total.
That $90.00bucks could be spent on wax and medium for saving work.

For the XL, either mod requires a single power modification, so exactly what is the big difference? And exactly what does your post have to do with the MPC2000?

what up phatz, i wish mine was internal! i got an external imoga joint. on my second one though. but yo, you really have an internal on your 2000? man i gotta talk with you about that

I can see the advantage of having an internal zip if you're really short on space or you want to be mobile with your MPC, but I think one big advantage of sticking with an external drive is that if something goes wrong with it you've still got the floppy drive to work with. I've already worn out one external drive & it took a while to get a replacement. As I've got a classic 2000 which boots up from a disk I wouldn't have been able to even switch my MPC on for a few weeks if it had been an internal zip that had gone wrong.

Never, ever, ever only have one zip drive. Particularly given the well known failure rate of this poorly manufactured drive.

I always kept at least three since some of the work I did wold not let me be down for more than a minute. I eventually dumped Zips a few years ago and went with CF cards.

2k and 2kxl motherboards are different in the fact that 2k has NO IDE connector for internal IDE (ZIP) drives.

Phatz sounds like he has his SCSI setup to run INSIDE the MPC to a internal SCSI ZIP drive. That will work cause it's still SCSI.
