Transferring Atapi formatted zip discs to my computer

The zip drive in my 2000xl is steadily dying. I've resolved to change to a CF drive but i've got alot of discs full of samples that I would like to save before I do away with these zip discs once and for all.
I have an Iomega 100 parallel port hooked up to my computer but it can't see any of my discs, it either comes up with an error 'insert zip disc' or 'format this disc'..
So i'm wondering is there a way to access this data?

Can an mpc read a PC formatted zip disk? (I'm not sure, never tried...but if you can format FAT16 I would think, yes).

Format a disk using the computer
Load samples / pgms into MPC
Swap disk with PC formatted disk
Save back to new PC formatted disk
Backup files on computer

The other option, maybe better, is to install the CF drive, then to use a SCSI zip drive, and load the samples from that then immediately save onto CF card.

Hey thanks for the info. Unfortunately the zip drive in my mpc is dying and usually after I load up one sample, it clicks and then fails.
I may have to try get the SCSI drive if worse come to worse. Thanks.

Windows XP never had any problems reading XL format discs, so maybe find someone with XP?

You can swap out your internal zip drive very easily. Just buy a new one of ebay, open up the XL and literally swap out like for like, making sure you set the jumpers identically.
