Pads not on or somethin

Ok my MPC is only making noise in certain circumstances........ One is when I go to the Shift+Trim menu and I can hear the sounds I have sampled... The other is when I go ti Shift+other and go to init and reset Perameters or somethin.....But R'nt the drumpads supposed 2 be on when U turn on yo MPC?.......Sounds R all loaded. And When I can get em to work under the 2nd circumstance above if I try to record anything the sound goes away... I can even hear the tempo tap but the Pads don't produce sound... One more thing is that I know I've assigned sounds to them.

If U've got any advice or info other than talkin to Akai I'd appreciate it.

What or where do I need to do or go to do this? Im new to this so as long as you give me the Terms used ib the MPC Ishould be ok thansk

I you record a sequence make sure that you have selected a program that contains sounds aka has sounds assigned to the drum pads.

i have the same problem with my 2000. Always save everything, sometimes when i load the APS my machine wont play the pads, only sounds in TRIM mode. If i play sequences, it only plays the midi and the pads, and eerything ive programmed witht the pads dont play, but i can go into program, and when i hit the pads, the name of the sound comes up, but no sound. i don't know why this happens, i just know that if i only load PGM and ALL it doesnt happen. when i finish i save to PGM, ALL and APS.


it has to be an internal fault. It has nothing to do with a fresh OS or anything, because we install a new OS everytime we boot up, and i've taken the 1.72 from different sources including.

try goin to program then DRUM (F3). then up at top pad to internal sounds make that on if it aint. should work then.

DO you know what DRUM 1, Drum 2, DRUM 3, and Drum 4 are? and how they work? Do you use "shift+program"?

look at the track number......now go to where you can flip it to say, drum1, drum2, midi, etc.

Select drum1, and "off"
Go to "shift+program" hit "drum 1"

assign you sounds to the pads by hiting the pad you want, then scrolling through till you find your sound, then go to the next pad, etc.


Drum 1, 2,3,4 etc are used so you can load multiple programs at once. I.e. I have a generic, bass program that i always use. So i always load it, and assign it to DRUM 2. My drum progarm is loaded and i assign it to DRUM 1. My instrument samples are loaded to DRUM 3.

Basically if you load up your sounds, and they are assigned to drum 1, but the track says drum 2 you arent gonna hear anything! Also notice that under "shift+program" you can scroll threw the programs loaded to swithc what one is assigned to drum 1, or drum 2, etc.

When you load multiple programs, depending on what order you loaded them, they automatically get assigned to separate drum 1, 2, 3, or 4 consecutively. This happens to me all the time. It can be a problem, because when you last saved they where in a differant order. shit sounds **** up, or sounds wont play. So i just go to shift+program, and switch drum1 to the right program, and drum2 as well.

Try to have a regular method of sound organization. I do it THis way, so i have my songs organized. When i use a track i assign that track to whatever type of sound i need. Plus then when i later reload the song, i can see what track uses what sounds....plus i dont have to recreate a new bass program for every song i make. I can just use the same one...and tweak from there.
