Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

I recently began experimenting with trying to duplicate the Filter system in the Akai MPC2000xl; I have come close when it comes to just imitating the low band pass of the filter, but when it comes to duplicating the sound after boosting I am way off

I feel once a machine or pc program is equally as powerful, it could duplicate exactly the sound that another machine could produce but first, one would have to isolate all pertinent specs then execute them

I was wandering about the actual specs of the MPC2000xl because some of the tones I create wit it are so hard to duplicate otherwise

I feel I need to know:
What type of of EQ does the filter use: Logarithmic or Passive, or a mix??

What is the decibel range of the filer?
What type of EQ is used: Parametric, FFT, or Graphic?
What band width is used during EQ adjustments?

Most important! What individual frequency range does each number from 0 to 100 represent?

Are there any site you know that reveals any of the info I'm seeking?

Has this topic been discussed before, and do you know what post?

Are there any aspects of the filter system I am overlooking that might help me with my quest?

I understand that I can't duplicate the filter perfectly but I would like to be able to master duplicating, to a close extent, the special resonances that I create easily but only on the MPC2000Xl

your best approach is to use a wav file of white noise and record filter sweeps into the computer with different resonances, then you should be able to do an FFt and watch the response you need to model.

Not sure, I'd think wide open it would be more than 16K Hz, jus tdo the test and find out!

I don't know it might be just the playback thru the MPC but I have never been able to get my highs to be ear-popping and crisp unless it was a kit-drum hit (808 high hat etc...)

Normally when you sample off of a record the sound is quite dull

When I boost with the MPC at 100 it only seems to bring out the body of the high hat or whatever (not too much hifi sizzle); it never gives me the hard acute edge that a kit-drum high hat normally gives with little effort

I do experiment with high end frequencies a lot and the only way I achieve higher quality standards with vinyl sample with frequencies above 13 kHz is by filtering via Cool Edit at very high frequencies then normalizing then shaping and filtering whatever noise that rises; this technique gives me that hard edge

So even if it does boost at a frequecny higher than 16kHz (which I originally thought - around 22kHz?), I never perceive much gain in the 12kHz and up frequencies

I also considered that maybe... even at the ends of the MPC Filter their EQ probably still didn't peak at the very ends but peaked between an end the closest frequency to it

But I still could be wrong about it all anyway
