has anyone had experience doing this....?

so, i called a few service centers today about my previous problem(the screen and slider).....this is the lowest i could find:

labor:$90/hr
slider:$10
screen:$140

I understand that the prices for the screen ad slider are pretty standard, but they said it would take at least 2 hours of labor($180). So i called akai themselves and they can give me both for $10 cheaper(total). NOW, here is my main thing. I have worked with computer motherboards and even keyboard(asr-10) boards. How easy would it be to install the entire slider(i know it takes soldering) and/or the screen. I hear the screen is pretty easy but i'm just wonderign about the slider mainly, don't wanna go and waste $180 when i can do it myself. DOes anyone have experience dong any of these installations? if so can you please respond ASAP so I know what I should do. thanks

I'm having the same issues that you are having and would really like some feedback on that subject.
My mpc is still under warranty but i think i may have voided the warranty because i opened it up a few times to install the memory and i even attempted self servicing a few times, so i'm kinda hessitant to send it out to akai.
I'm thinking about replacing the slider myself. let me know how it goes with you.
