Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

To check that someone could measure the times the XL need to convert a sample to a lower samplerate with AND without converting the bitdepth.


just sample rate
16bit 44.1kHZ -> 16bit 11025HZ - Low Quality: 1:53 (28.25 x the original length of the sample)
16bit 44.1kHZ -> 16bit 11025HZ - High Quality: 8:44 (131 x the original length of the sample)

just dit depth
16bit 44.1kHZ -> 8bit 44.1kHZ - Low Quality: 3:18 (49.5 x the original length of the sample)
16bit 44.1kHZ -> 8bit 44.1kHZ - High Quality: 12:09 (182.25 x the original length of the sample)

bits and fs at same time
16bit 44.1kHZ -> 8bit 11025HZ - Low Quality: 1:53 (28.25 x the original length of the sample)
16bit 44.1kHZ -> 8bit 11025HZ - High Quality: 8:44 (131 x the original length of the sample)
^^That's pretty weird, it takes the same time as only reducing the sample rate, but bit depth alone takes longer.

8bit source
8bit 44.1kHZ -> 8bit 11025HZ - Low Quality: 1:34 (23.5 x the original length of the sample)
8bit 44.1kHZ -> 8bit 11025HZ - High Quality: 6:58 (104.5 x the original length of the sample)
Not that much faster than 16 bit^^

and my favorite...
16bit 44.1kHZ -> 12bit 13333HZ - Low Quality: 3:33 (53.25 x the original length of the sample)

Drum Loop 2 - 808 drum loop generated in Logic
Piano Loop - Electric piano loop generated in Logic

The above files are resampled to 13333kHZ. It's worth noting that at 'standard' sample rates (11025/22050), the sound change was not as drastic...i imagine because of a built-in fs-specific anti-alias filter.

I will keep my mpc sounding like an mpc ;]

^^Thanks a lot!! thats the way examples should be :)

After hearing this I dont like the resampled sound of the XL for stuff like E-Piano. But it sounds not too bad at snares IMO.

The 'after' sound files are resampled to 13333kHZ. It's worth noting that at 'standard' sample rates (11025/22050), the sound change was not as drastic...i imagine because of a built-in fs-specific anti-alias filter.
