also, about the mac hidden files thing, it is not a 'zip only' issue, they add the same files to cards as well.
you can delete these with a pc, and maybe with a mac via terminal.
there are a couple hidden file cleaners, though I've never used them:

neither a pc or a mac can read an mpc formatted disk. it needs to be fat16 to be read by a computer.

Im pretty sure the cf card in my mpc is mpc formatted and my mac reads it with little to no issue.

my mpc formatted zips read in my mac. compatability is OK but thats working with zip - "uneasy." there are problems ive run into i.e. sounds cant be found in the program, corrupted SEQ files. i think it has to do with my sounds/program names named over 8 characters.

its seems that when i have all my sounds at a of max 8 characters it doesnt mess up the data on my zips once put on my usb zip > mac...its just i have mucho discs to transfer.... ill get back with what ive come up with

does you disk read but with corrupted file names? or does it not read what so ever? i had a disk full of music go bad on me and i opened it up and found the black film disk had seperated from the metal inner hub so it wasnt reading whatsoever after i opened it i used my wifes clear nail polish and bonded it back together duplicated the disk and threw it in the trash but i recovered all my work... worth a shot if your disc is unreadable rather than corrupted...

Lost about 2 years worth of music... too many eggs in one basket. I still have all the original samples, but damn...thinking of the hundreds of chops and arrangements I lost makes me feel deflated.

^^^But it only happens once! I had a full album saved on...... floppies.

I had about 30 disks and about half became corrupted. All of my .aps and .all files were on the bad half, lmao. SCSI dude hooked it up, no problems since,and I have 16GB's to save files on one card (Which gets backed up everytime i save to it)

I've lost all my DAW song files before, but never the actual samples they were referencing. Like others said you just gotta approach archiving like a paranoid freak. 12 total HD's over here if I count up the older pc's. No RAIDS or anything just manual folder duplication all over the place.

Reading this thread just re-iterates how happy I am I dumped my Zip last week.
