MPC2000 into Ableton Live

Hiya!

Searched everywhere but can't seem to find any conclusive answers how to do this....

I want to be able to use my MPC2000 as a midi controller in Ableton. From what I have seen this is definitely possible, just unsure how to accomplish.

My steps so far:

Plugged a midi cable from the MIDI OUT of the MPC into the MIDI IN of my soundcard. I can control the tempo in Ableton from my MPC so it must be connected to some degree...

I don't know if there’s something special I have to do in Ableton, the MPC or both!

Any idea's?

don't know for the 2000 but probably sams as with 5000 :

-assign midi control number to knobs/sliders on MPC

result -- they send Midi Out

- assign in Ableton this knob/slider to any knob/slider of Ableton (the manual is quite clear on this...)

For each track you want to control Ableton, you need to assign it a midi port (out) and a channel.

You do this by going to the bottom on the main screen, where you choose DRUM1-4, change that to MIDI, then arrow over to the right and scroll through the channel/port combinations (1A-16B).

Ableton must be configured to receive properly...can't help you there. But the above will definitely get midi into ableton.

Just for anyone else who may need this in the future.....

I managed to get it to work. Not by sync-ing anything. Didn't even need to go to the 'Midi/Sync' section on the MPC. Which is strange...

On the front screen I just set the bottom left value (unable to see what this is actually called as I have a fair few dead pixels on the screen!) to anything other than 'Off'. 'Off' appears to be the default value so I just highlighted the bottom left value and turned the jog wheel to the right. Didn't seem to matter how much I turned it. The numbers looked to be going up but as soon as it was not on the 'off' option I was in.

In summary: Take the bottom left value off of 'off'.

Didn't even have to touch ableton, bar arming the midi track....
