8 outs question

Wassup...I finally bought a mixer with 8 inputs (Motu 828mk2) and I attempted to use the 8 outs for the first time. My LCD screen is going bad so I had to rely on the book to guide me thru setting up the outputs. I can only set the outputs in stereo. 1/2, 3/4, 5/6 on each channel. I want to send 8 tracks at the same time to the MK2, and record in logic 9. I know having a single number on each channel means the sound is mono, but the option to use a single number (to represent mono) is not there. Does the MP automaticall see that a sound is sample in stereo vs Mono?
I also notice that the sound comes out "crackliy" from one of the outs....if it is in fact a bad channel do you think it can it be repaired easily?

The 8 outputs work like this. Mono samples gives you a choice of single number or 1 output. The 1/2 thing your talking about means your using stereo samples or no samples. Load up 8 mono samples and then try it.

Crackling means ....

1) Bad cable, try a different one
2) Bad input on your interface try another one
3) Internal cable for the 8 output board is not connected properly
4) Possible that the sample is very distorted try a different one.

I'm thinking that the 8 outs card is not installed properly...no matter what I play thru channel 5/6, I get distortion..I sampled something in Mono, and discoverd thats its only Channel 5. I didn't crack open the Mp yet, but I hope that a small adjustment will solve the problem.

it could be a problematic connection... however swap cables and use one you know for a fact it works and run it through a different input to rule that out.. (ie: unplug the cable from output 1 and put it in output 5)

inspect the card if the problem remains the same... check that the jack goes into the output properly and the contacts are made. also inspecting the soldering and traces for that output to make sure nothing is broken or badly done.. check the ribbon cable to make sure it's seated properly as well.

Yeah im going to open it up today..i hope its just a loose connection. I once swapped out the pads thinking my originals died..nit the case..the ribbon was sort of loose. That said, do u think it is possible my lcd screen is dojng the same thing? It flickers alot amd has a few lines in it.
