formatting....

i've just learned not to format the zip disk in my mpc2000xl...
.
because... that disk is now no longer readable to my pc zip disk... meaning i can't transfer files with that one.... i can't even format back to pc standards. on my computer for some reason... it gives me an error about i need a label... before formatting... i type in a random label name.... and the shiz is still phukt... when i put the mpc formatted zip disk into the drive... it basically doesn't exist... strange...

its actually best just to leave the zip disks the way they are when they are bought... this isn't a hinderence to me... cuz i have four other zip disks that i bought from ebay... and they work perfectly... as far as transferring files back and forth...

well you formatted it so the data that was on it is now gone.
if by fix up, you mean format it in a way that will work, you can try formatting it on the PC. you have the XL so that should do the trick.

This has been covered in dozens of topics within this forum. Windows XP will not read MPC formatted disks if XP has been installed to an NTFS partition. Either have XP on a FAT32 partition, or use PC formatted disks.

yeah, actually you can.
simply right click on the zip disk in windows explorer and choose format.

label is just a name. do a quick format. fat32 I believe. i dont have a zip hooked up here at work. maybe fat16 if you have the choice.

dude, the file format for pc that you are using to format your disks is not read by the mPC. you need to format it "old skool" pc, ie win 95, 98 2000 etc, not xp.

are you on XP? that makes 2 peeps that have made that guess, but I dont see where you ever stated what os you are using.

i guess the solution is to connect this external zip to another pc that has win 98,,, format it to pc standards.... then take my zip back to my xp pc..... to continue life as normal....
