Any of you guys rocking the MFC-42 with the 2000/XL?

Might have to try and grab one of those filters and rack it, if the price is right.

Any opinions on the product/ quality/ effectiveness would be welcomed.

(I don't have a 2000, but the MFC looks cool mounted on one)

I've still got mine and used to have it mounted on my XL. As a bread and butter filter it's pretty good, but the extras (distortion, modulation) aren't so good. After years of inactivity I've just started using it again recently. I had it up for sale on SOS and eBay a few times, but I think I'm destined to take it to the grave.

Used to have one - its a very good filter - but Coz is right in that you wouldn't want to do too much additional stuff with it.
Worked with it alongside my 3000, no real complaints - but you may want to shop around for alternatives however.

I also have the Electrix Filter Factory and the Electrix Filter Queen.
They all get used but I think my Akai is the best of the three.
It's good to use as an insert on your mixing desk either racked or sitting on its rubber feet as a tabletop unit.

The mono filter goes up to 8 pole which is pretty extreme for most applications but, as already said, the distortion is not that good, just not so pleasing to the ear.
It has both RCA and ¼ inch I/O which is pretty versatile and it has an RIAA preamp built in for a TT.

The Phaser is subtle but works for me. The filter is good with the usual four filter types. MIDI sync for the LFO if you need it.
The resonance is strong enough to wreck your speakers, so be careful.

ive just got mine a couple months ago i love it ! i usually thro what ever i sampled thru the 8 outs to the filter..... i just learned last beat how to freak it wit midi which is the key for switchin it up for multiple patterns ... once you dial in your settings you can use the send scene option in the beginning of the sequence so it sticks to that particular seq... every knob excluding volume is already mapped out in midi to work with the mpc so u can record any automation with you beat

im still learnin but its pretty straight forward just gotta use it to figure it out.... the Manual helps a lot....

i actualy like the xtras ...the distortion ive used sparingly .. it makes certain tones stick out which really brang my last beat to life (only used a litle cuz its pretty loud) the lfo is completely syncable and you can also tap tempo it which is dooope! there's a bunch of different combinations you can do with this peice of gear that will keep you goin ... i kno im gunna be using this thing for a while ...

this is my first filter so i have nothing to go off of but im am sooper happy wit it... it works exactly like i wanted the filter to work and even more !

if the price is right cop it ! i scooped mine up for just under 400 bucks somthin like 390

o yea PITCHARD is right the filter can self oscillate so be careful with ur ears / speakers

^^ I'm glad you dig it so much. When you've processed drums through a Moog filter you realise the 42 is middle of the road... nice but nothing spectacular.

The Sherman Filterbank and Rodec Restyler are the Kings of hardware filters, but they cost a pretty penny and are notorious for frying monitor speakers!

Saw some MFC-42's that sold for around £200-250 on the bay starting at 0.99p, there were lots of bidders fighting over the things but that seems to be the norm.

Am I right in thinking that these originally sold new for £199.00 or thereabouts and the product is discontinued?

I bought it the week it dropped and I think it was around £375 new. I'm not 100% on that because I did a part trade and payed the difference to get it. They definitely haven't made them for years.

If I try and sell it again I'll probably start it off at 99p... I was asking for £250 before.

And no, unfortunately I don't have a Moog filter lying around. The Moog app on the iPhone doesn't compare really!

Ive said it before but as a stand alone rack unit the Oakley Sound Filtrex is hard to beat.

like i said earlier the mfc is my first filter i ever rocked and seeing all the ones that was posted defiantly makes me wanna give them a shot or look into them when i get my fill of the mfc ... but i really think the midi implementation on the unit sets it apart. especially if your using it with an mp ... it definitely broadens the limitations ... i can dial in my settings for one seq save it then go to the next seq, go ape shit with out worrying about loosing anything ...
