I would get the software called "CF Xtract"

With the software, you can browse the Akai CD format on your PC (Mac version is also available) and copy the content to your hard drive.
I don't own the software, but it seems that you can make copy of the content of Akai CD disks.

MPC-2000 classic cannot read content of file folder (therefore all the data files has to be on root directory) and that's the reason you could not read CD-ROM that came with 2000XL.

If you have larger storage option like ZIP drive, then you can copy part of the content to ZIp drive (you have to have it for MPC and PC though), and open them on MPC-2000 classic.

can you pop stuff from the computer onto zips with the 2000 classic? I never used a zip with the 2000.. only with the xl version which obviously has no problem.

Yes, files can be transferred between PC and MPC-2000 Classic via Zip disk (or CF card, or hard-to-find M.O disks. SCSI device only.)
With the last released OS, MPC-2000 Classic can import WAV files as well. All the files must be named in DOS format, and copied to root directory.

oh really? I honestly did not know about the wav file thing on the classic cause I never tried that.. actually I dont even transfer stuff.

2000 classic can save in WAV file as well.
