midi set up help

Wasup forum , im new here . I just bought an mpc 2000 max ram 8 outs, ihave an asr 10, emu proteus 2000, roland super jv and a macOS X 10.3.9 400 MHz power pc G4 1GB SDram running pro tools LE 6.4 thru a digi 001 . what is the best way to hook up midi using the mpc 2000 as the sequencer and pro tools to lay down my tracks. Also , I would like to know how to hook up to use the pro tools as the sequencer and choose which i like better. I'd also like to know if there are any upgrades for the mac os and the pro tools availible for my systems. thanks

I suggest running midi out from the mpc to midi in on the computer... and vice versa..

try setting things up in the midi menu on the mpc (midi mmc switched to on for example)

mess around in the options of your DAW..


and if you have more questions, search around the forum because a lot of people who wanted to know basically the same thing asked the same questions millions of times before.

I'm new here too but I understand a lot of this stuff really well...

I think you would be most comfortable with your workflow if you followed mr_debauch's directions on setting up your MIDI, and you'll see, if you haven't yet, that it's not very hard to do.

After that, you can open a software sampler on your computer (this can be reason or ableton, or certain plugins in Pro Tools, etc.). Basically, you can save your samples on your computer (which will be faster, and give you much more storage/saving for your samples), and save your sequences with a simple MIDI program, and just trigger them on your MPC (which wouldn't take very much space either, thus would be very fast to save/load up as well). You would be using your MPC as the sequencer in this case, you would still have control over the swing/timing features of your MPC, which you could simply record to MIDI tracks inside Pro Tools, and save and edit there.

You could also connect 2 of the outputs from your Digi001 to the record-ins on your MPC, so if you wanted to use your MPC stand-alone (without Pro Tools), you could easily record your samples to it from there.

With your gear, this is probably the combination I would use.
