Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

So i finally received the card reader for the mpc, and yesterday I installed it.
the mpc needed some love, it had some broken keys and some pads were really dirty so I took care of the baby, with new keys, black pads and the card reader.
The quality of the card reader is a bit meh, it came bent and the plastic front plate was glued with hot glue, by the second time I ejected the SD card the front plate fell down... whatever, I can fix that.
But the MPC went nuts! I noticed that the LED of the reader was blinking al the time, but since loading programs worked, I didn't really care. After 10 minutes of playing, te MPC started doing some strange noises, which wouldn't stop even if I stopped the sequence. The sequence played normally, the noise was just "on top". strange.
Switched off and restarted, after 10 minutes the same problem. Restart needed, second time I lost some work. So by the third restart of the machine, I loaded a program, recorded a sequence and saved immediately -after saving the LED of the card reader wasn't blinking anymore, just lit like it should be, and the MPC worked for the rest of the session without any glitch or random noise.
I whish I had sampled the noise as it was a really deep and intense low freq rumble with some hi freq glitching on top of that, but i was so scared something could fry I always switched the MPC off immediately.

tomorrow I'll hit the studio again and will try saving something immediately to see if the blinkng goes away... if that's the workaround I can live with it, but it's a strange thing happening here.

it sounds like your cf reader got bent (maybe during shipping or the shipper sold you a garbage one) check to make sure the bend case isn't touching anything.. maybe there is a short somewhere causing it to act up. Also, check the cables in your machine (make sure all ribbon cables and what not are seated properly) same with the ram.. make sure it's in there good.. take it out and put it back in. (maybe dont touch the lcd screen cable though)

also, use a can of compressed air and clean the machine out.

I remember SCSI for sampler guy recommended to NOT use SD (Secure Digital card) card reader. He recommended IDE CF reader (Compact Flash reader.) only.

Anyway, I don't know which card reader you've installed. Most of ATAPI card reader won't work with MPC-2000XL. Which card reader did you install? Is it hot-swappable card reader?

I don't think your MPC got damaged by connecting the card reader. Remove the IDE ribbon from the card reader, and see if you can boot your MPC.

I don't think mpc got damaged either, after saving a sequence the led would stop blinking and stay lit and I would use the MPC for 6 hours straight without any problems.
Gonna check the cables tho.
