Sequence change on computer sequencer??

Hi.

I have recently hooked up my mpc to my Acid sequencer via midi, using the computer Midi time clock.

I am using audio samples for the melody and the mpc for the drums.. is there any way that I can get to change the drum sequence on the computer sequencer?

At the moment all I can do is trigger the sequence on my MPC to start at the same time as the audio samples...

E.G I have got two drum sequences on the MPC and I want them to alternate throughout the song without having to reprogram the sequence order on the mpc...

any guidance or advice would be much appreciated,

I used to do something similar years ago, sending midi program numbers from an Alesis MMT8 sequencer to change the sequence numbers on a Roland R8 drum machine.

You would need to send something like a midi program change command from Acid........but it won't be a program change because in the MPC's case that changes the program. Try some other midi controller numbers???

dont mean to sound stupid, but what are midi control numbers? and how do they work?


If I use Cubase I can program the sequence on the Midi program screen and I can have as many drum variatons as I like, but as I find that mad fiddly I am wondering if there is anyway that I can tap out the sequence on the mpc and insert the sequence into my computer sequencer as a midi file or something? then I could make any variations that I like throughout the song,...?

Is this possible??

there are a couple of ways of doing this. I have used only one. the first is once you have cubase set up with your mpc so that you can make patterns in cubase to control the mpc. I am a logic user so i dont know the specifics of cubase. In logic once you have the computer sending and recieving midi data you can press record on the midi track in cubase and the mpc will start in sync and all of the midi data will be recorded into cubase.

the second method would be to save individual midi files of your patterns on the mpc to 3.5 or zip. then load them import them into cubase and trigger them from there. this method was very confusing for me in logic so i chose the first option.

there is also system exclusive midi control messages. these are message numbers that apply to specific products. at the end of the mpc manual there is a midi implementation chart that shows standard midi control numbers and another chart that shows system exclusive numbers. it is possible that there is one that will apply to the next sequence function.
