Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

Hi!

after 3 years of beatmaking with no saving (and starting every session from scratch), i finally decided to upgrade my mpc 2000xl. so i bought a card reader (this one: http://www.ebay.de/itm/AKAI-MPC-2000-XL ... 231a916658), unplugged the floppy drive and installed the card reader. when i turn on on the mpc it says "wait..." for about 2 seconds, then: "no floppy device". i tried that many times, but no luck. before that i installed OS 1.2 with my floppy drive.
ok after all that i resigned and wanted to install the floppy drive again, but didnt work either! its like a curse......can anyone help me with this?

Yes Card has to be in when powering on.
Card size doesn't matter, I have the same cardreader and could use a transcend 2 Giga, Sandisk 4 and 8 Giga. all 3 works. the will just be formatted as 1 giga.
I had the same issue, no floppy device error. I changed the IDE cable and now everything works.
Maybe your cables are a bit loose.
I don't remember the jumper settings tho, as I'm not in front of the mpc now.

thanks for quick reply...........i tried it many times with inserted card (CnMemory Gold Compact Flash 1024mb). no success.
i will try it with another IDE cable.......but the guy who gave me the cable took that IDE cable from a working unit with cardreader..........we'll see.
what do you mean with "jumper settings"?

There is a STARTUP menu in the 2kxl that needs to be changed from FLOPPY to ATAPI. You need to do that so when starting up the mpc will look for the card reader.

2kxl manual, pg 135.

This sets up the primary device the MPC2000XL searches the file to load automatically when it is turned on. You can also select the type of file to be loaded.

Hold down SHIFT and press LOAD (3 on the numeric kaypad) followed by SETUP [F4]. SETUP screen will appear.

Select the primary device in the Primary device:field.

This selects the device that becomes active when the MPC2000XL is turned on. The
avaiable options are, FLOPPY, ATAPI, SCSI-O ~ SCSI-7, and F-ROM.

After that if the mpc still doesn't recognize the card reader check the jumper.
