Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

MPC2000XL with MCD, OS 1.2. purchased new 8-out board from VST. Installed and all the odd output channels (1,3,5,7) are all distorted at the tail end of a sample. Like drum hits will just fizzle away. Even channels are perfect. What the hell could this be?
Did I install it backwards, or is the board defective?
Thanks for any info

Hmm.. still not entirely sure what is up here. The good folks at VST we're stumped. So now I reloaded the same Pgm and all the outputs seem fine..... Does this happen to anyone else randomly?

Mine does that also.Sometimes i have to switch channels and it seems fine but that kind of defeats the purpose of using the 8 outs.Like A01 should be mixer channel 1 but there's so much distortion i switch it to 3 and it's fine.I even turned down the mixer but it still does it.Any ideas?????

Sorry to revive an old post, but I am looking for an answer for this problem and can't seem to find it anywhere.

I just got a 8 outputs board for the mpc 2000xl from ebay. And the problem I have is exactly the same. Even outputs work like a charm, but Odd ones make a crazy distortion.

The same for the digital input, it makes a really heavy distortion.

Is there a way to solve this, or did I just get a bad board from ebay?

Thanks in advance

very odd problem...

I wonder if any of the electronics are damaged on those cards.. the ribbon cable perhaps or who knows what.

try out maybe disconnecting the cables from the expansion and making sure they are properly reconnected on your cards... look for anything that looks out of the ordinary on the board itself too like popped capacitors or leaky components etc.. just in case.

Any luck figuring it out guys? I have an extra 8 out board that is fuzzy in only two channels. I want to sell it (cheap) but don't want to sell an mpc user something that is messed up.

Hell, my 5,7 just don't work with some interfaces. No distortion though. Just flat out doesn't read. I just run 5 & 7 into a mixer then into the interface on 5 as stereo then mono them in the cpu. The long way but hey, it works!!

You probably all have the Mutec boards, sometimes they turn up advertised as original Akai boards on Ebay and other such places. The Mutec board has some compatibility issue with the MPC 2000 and distorts the odd outputs like everyone's been complaining about in this thread. Although mine will still work on occasion if I switch the MPC on and off a few times. The other issue with just the two outputs not working sounds like an electronics problem (if it's an Akai board, you can usually tell by the phono digital in and output if there's no logo on the board, the Mutec board has 1/4" jack digital i/o.) The only solution if you do indeed have a Mutec board is to ditch it and buy an Akai one unfortunately.
