Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

I use an mpc2000xl. For a few years I’ve been using zip disks & it’s handy as i can hot swap them & transfer files from my pc using a usb zip disk reader.

However, I keep losing beats when disks go corrupt & it’s driving me mad.

So, I’ve bought one of these & about to install it.

I’ve had a good look around this & other forums & just want to confirm a few things 1st.

Before swapping the floppy for the IDE card reader I need to upgrade the OS to 1.20 which I’ll do via the zip drive.
Once I do this will I no longer be able to read zip disks on my mpc?

I would prefer to still be able to use zip disks for file transfer so i can leave the ca\rd in, but use the zip to hot swap.

As far I have read I need to use a 1gb card – like this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/SANDISK-1GB-ULT ... B0007QU7KU

Which must be inserted on boot up. Once I do this I can no longer hot swap & my zip drive won’t work?

I’m wondering if use OS 1.14 I may still be able to use my zip disk.

To fit this card I need to get a 40 pin female to female IDE cable, correct?

Does this all sound correct?
Am I missing anything

Thanks

The CF drive looks like exactly the same as mine, (Addonics IDE CF reader, part number: ADIDECF, non-swappable) so it should work with MPC-2000XL.

The memory card that you linked is not SD card, which won't fit in CF reader. Get Sandisk Compact Flash card instead. Don't get generic CF cards just because it is a bit cheaper, most of the cases, they don't work with 2000XL.
