You can make anything on an MPC as long as you sample the right sources.

chemical brothers while using plenty of other gear... also used a 3000 for some sampling and I am guessing for sequencing as well... which means that would be more than possible on a 2000 or 2000xl for sure... divinci uses a 2000xl as a sort of guitar in a very weird computer sounding type of way in combination with guitar pedals and talk boxes.

last time i jammed with a guitarist we basically wrote a morcheeba track.

Can you give an example of something your trying to achieve? A lot of the little tricks I've learned to process samples come from misusing and/or overusing parameter functions i.e tying things to velocity or note variation. Also for a more electronic edge throw in note repeat alongside a velocity controlled parameter for cool ish (something I hear a lot of on 90s electronic albums)

But I wouldn't build tracks around these tricks just use them for accent or specific parts. 99% of your genres vibe will come from your arrangement,bpm, and of course the samples you use.
