Fried MPC 2000xl- please help

Hello, not a regular poster as I don't have a lot to contribute but i'm in real trouble right now.

Basically I have a 2000xl, i have added the eb16fx and modded a ide CF drive.

I just got a s3000xl and attempted to mod the cable on the 8 out put board.

I have connected the cable which I fear was not properly modified and basically....

The pads are now unresponsive and no sounds are coming through.

If i try to load a sound, and press do it, I can not play it or change the pad it is assigned to.

Programs still load and sequences run.

It seems like i have blown a fuse or fried something?


Please can anyone help.

I am absolutely devistated.

I don't think your 2000XL is broken, since you can navigate menu.

First, remove all the installed optional board, make your XL minimum system, and check whether your XL can play loaded samples.

I took the eb16 and cf drive out and went back to OS 1.4.

Same problem.

The pads are unresponsive, I can load sounds and I tried to sample but it is not recognising the input.

Everything else works, I can navigate easily, load sounds use all of the functions.

Its just the pads and the in/outs.

Please can someone help?

Or is it time to sell for parts?

try disconnecting every cable that connects the pannels.. and reconnect them back... sometimes things shake and wiggle loose.

there also may be the chance something got disconnected while you were installing things.

Hi, ive gone through all the connectors, but no joy.

I should probably add, that I put the 8 out put board in with out mounting it on a bracket.

Should i have grounded the 8 output board?

Could this be the cause of the problem?

There is also a chance that I had the cable the wrong way round.

Would any of this result in shorting/fusing something on the main board?

If you inserted the 8-outs cable the wrong way, you can fry one of the resistors and the sensor pad... I've done that before.
Look for a crispy burnt R1 resistor near the IB-M208P connection slot on the circuit board.
Either way, I had to send it off to California to get it fixed with a new sensor pad and a new resistor... $200 mistake.

This seems to be more like the problem, however the R1 seems fine.

Must be another resistor somewhere else.

Ive asked Deesprm who had a similar problem, where he got his fixed.

This could be an option for me as he is in Europe.

Very expensive mistake.

I know its an old thread but mine old one had the same problem and it was the -12 volt rail missing...
I believe you cannot sample also...
And if you give strong signal and max the input you will see "peaks" on the recording screen...
Its a big resistor (cant recall the name) right after the power cable connector in the motherboard low Ohm (under 100, and if i remember right it was 22 or 33 ohm 1 or 2 watt)...
It may not seem broken but if you check it with a multimeter you will see mega ohms of resistance or open circuit...
Change it and you may be ready to go...
I dont see why the pads can be fried.. -12 v rail doesnt to them... +/-12 voltage rails are only for the operational amplifiers...
