Argh.. using a MIDI Keyboard w/ MPC2000XL

I've read the tutorial but can't figure out why it's not working. I have an old Yamaha PSS-795 keyboard that I want to use to control sounds inside the MPC. I have MPC MIDI IN 1 to Keyboard MIDI OUT. I made an autochromatic assigned bass program, selected DRUM, and tried to play the sounds, but it didn't work. The keyboard I am using has built in sounds, and even speakers on the keyboard, so when I try to play the sounds from the MPC, I can hear the sounds from the keyboard, which I'm NOT trying to use. The keyboard has 2 midi buttons - Keyboard Transmit Channel, and Recieve channel. I tried adjusting some settings but couldn't figure it out.

Can anyone help me out..?

You have to turn local control off on the yamaha.

and change the mpc's midi channel for the track you are recording.
