MPC users guide to Zip drives

I don't know if this is the right place to post this but here it goes. Does a usb zip drive 250 work ok with windows 7 ?

I've had no issues with Zip drives and Windows 7, but you may want to look at the Microsoft site below for your exact zip drive or any other hardware you may have questions about.

^windows 7 natively supports all USB zip drives as generic mass storage

they are all the same thing... Any/all of them will work. However it looks like the top one comes with a 25 to 25 pin scsi cable witch you will need to connect the drive to your machine.

This is not true, they are not all the same!!!.

1) Do not buy this, it is a parallel model not SCSI. Hence no SCSI terminators on the rear. Model number Z100P2 (P=Parallel port version)

2) This is what you need. See the two grey switches on the rear, those are SCSI terminators. Model number Z100S2 (S=SCSI port version)

3) Hard to tell from the photo, but described as a SCSI model.

4) Hard to tell from the photo, but described as tested with samplers. Labelled with SCSI ID so should be good.

Number 2 is the best one to go for, followed by number 4 and then number 3. Number 1 will not work with any sampler I've ever heard of.

If you are ever in doubt about ZIP drives, ask the seller for the model number and check as above.

Whoops my b! I just saw the scsi listed as the connection type but tottally glanced past the very clear p2 listed on the model number. Good catch Clint!

Nope that's a parallel again, notice the "p2" in the zip drives model number.

Easily missed.

Some sellers list parallel models as SCSI because the cables are similar, but the differences are obvious once you know where to look.

1) Two SCSI terminator switches on the rear.

2) Model number contains 'S', not 'P'.

3) SCSI model has only female ports, parallel has male and female (printer) ports.

4) Zip100 PLUS models are slightly different, having both SCSI and parallel ports.

Man... I am glad I got out that hell of trying to buy an external/internal Zip drive and hoping it would stay working long enough to use it other gear.
Since switching to a card reader 4 years ago, I still have about 40 Zip discs and 2 broken Zip drives.

Lol.

Zip drives are a false economy, they are cheap for a reason.

You could buy one and it may work, but for how long??

Card readers really are a much more reliable and safe solution.

Not to mention the disks themselves...

Thnx for the help guys... yeah card reader is good, but costs so much for 2k... it's over 300 bucks! what do you think guys, it is worth to get external card reader kit for mpc 2000?
