It just sounds really wacky.
What we are trying to determine is, is this an audio problem or a pad problem?
For the pads, you want to get both visual and audible confirmation that they are not having an effect. This is why homedude said to go into step edit mode and hit a pad. Does it input a note? You will be able to see it if it does.
The way to check the audio is to bypass the pads...go into trim screen and use the F6 button (PLAY X) to see if you get any sound. Forgive me if that's a little off...I've never used a 2k and it might be different from XL. You also might have already done this by trying to play a sequence...but just trying to eliminate as many variables as possible.
Having said that, try all these test with no zip drive, maybe even try no memory. Eliminate as much as possible.
The point for this relentless double checking is that the pads + audio shouldn't really be related. It is more unlikely that both things would go out at the same time. Still, it is possible, but just trying to be 100% accurate on the exact symptoms.
Maybe if you had some detailed pics, somebody else who has taken apart a 2k might notice something horribly wrong? Maybe dude plugged your scsi into your pads, I don't know, just sayin, the issue sounds that weird.
