Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

Ok SO I understand how to create a blank program with midi notes chromaticly assigned.

I would like to use this program though midi wise to control a synth i use in ableton

Code: Select all(have it all hooked up correctly with mpc as slave)

But if i save it as a drum program wont this make it not able to used when i set the trak to midi and not drum?

that is where I am confused

Also say I have a midi clip I use in live, Can i import the midi file to play on my mpc, say i made a drum track in live can i export that midi, import it into the mpc and have it play those midi notes with samples set up on that program with those notes?

if you want the mpc to control ableton... I dont think you want the mpc to be the slave... you want it to be the master.

You also want the mpc's midi out to go the computer's midi in... because if the mpc is doing the controlling, it's the one sending midi data out.

So, for example... are you trying to make a beat with drums in the mpc and the synth sound is in ableton but you are playing it from the mpc?

If I read that right, yes. You just may need to move the focus selector on the right edge of the drum rack to match your MPC's mapping.

In another thread a little while back I quoted all the Drum Rack MIDI Note # assignments for a guy, might be useful to you drewphishes.

Sorry, i had it wrong, i have the mpc as the master ableton as slave

I use the drums on mpc and use the midi for synths etc in ableton

i am wondering how I can get it to be chromatic as if i was playing with a keyboard

(i have my keyboard hooked up threw the mpc as well and it works awesome I am just wondering how i can assign the pads to be chromatic)

i get u can make a program to make the assignments, but if i make a drum program how can i use it as midi in ableton?

i read somewhere if you set up the track with the blank chromatic program then change it to midi it should work

is this true?

Yes.

And MPC as master would be my personal preference to. I want the MPC transport to start and stop live, and the XL's internal MIDI clock will generally be tighter than most internal computer one s unless you broke a lot of bread on your audio interface.

wait.. so you have the keyboard (midi keyboard controller) going into the mpc... and when you push keys it is triggering the synth.. well cant you just use that? I would have thought when record on the mpc it will play back what you did... or is the keyboard something you really need to remove from the setup? Because a keyboard would be better for playing the synth... no? It has more than 16 keys so you wouldn't need to switch banks so often.

i figured it out, some things i like to bang out with pads and chords and stuff i like to do with the keyboard its pretty great setup really now I am really liking the workflow and nothing beats drum sounds from the mpc
