Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

Hi all,
well I am new to MPC-forum but have been using various MPC's for about 10 years and needless to say they are my favorite box in the studio.
Two queries:
Firstly, I am trying to back up all of my MPC2000xl files onto my PC. As you know, Windows can only see short file names so when trying to back up the computer sees only the first few characters of the file name. My problem is I have about 50, 100 meg Zip discs, all full of sounds with long names like "bongoloopsA102" but the computer only sees the first few characters so it overwrites the previous files saved. This is annoying and I don't want to rename all of the samples not just because of the time involved but then all of my programs will not be able to find the right files after I have renamed them. Does anyone know of a workaround or perhaps an application that will allow windows XP (home edition) to recognise longer file names?
Secondly, I can't seem to be able to change the file format (XP sees the files from the MPC as SUN/Java) to .wav so Cubase SX 1 will read or import them. I have Wavelab 4 which recognises the samples but I cannot convert them within Wavelab to .wav files.
Any help would someone could give me would be great - I'm sure these problems have been met before,
cheers

I've never found a way to get around long filenames.
I gave up trying and stuck with 8 character filenames.
I use "CK Rename" for batch renaming.

I use "Awave Studio" to batch convert my
MPC2kxl SND's to WAV.
